Soups a.k.a Potage of the French Classical Menu

Soups are nothing but liquid food made from mixing stocks with vegetables or meat. They are generally served hot.It is the second course of the french classical menu. Soups are generally classified into two types : clear soups and thick soups.

I'm honestly not a big fan of soups.I have rarely tried any soup in my life. I think the reason for that is that I like my food to be solid and also drinking soup reminds me of being sick. I generally have it when I'm either sick or when I go to restaurants with my family. My mom is a big fan of soups. Her favorite is chicken soup. So, I will be choosing Chicken soup as my topic. Chicken soup is one of the most common soup.Following is the recipe for chicken soup:

500 gm Chicken with bones
100 gm White Onion
20 gm celery
100 gm carrot
20 gm leeks
10 gm green peas
10 gm tomato
1-2 clove of garlic
5 gm parsley
Parmesan cheese
Butter
1 spice bag
salt and pepper

1) Boil chicken in water for 3-4 hours. Also add large dice of white onion, celery and carrots. Also put     spice bag in it.

2) Strain the water and keep it aside. This water is called stock.Shred the chicken.

3) Start heating butter in a pan and add small diced carrot, celery, leeks and carrot into it. Saute it        properly,

4) Once the color changes, add minced garlic and saute until its fragrant.

5) Add chicken stock and bring it to boil.

6) Once its boiled, add shredded chicken and stir it for 2 more minute.

7)Take it off the heat and take it in a soup bowl.Garnish it with chopped tomato, green peas and chopped parsley.

8) Serve topped with Parmesan cheese.

The soup, I prepared doesn't have much water in it since I don't like watery food.Since I'm from India,I like my food to be very hot.So I made the soup is very hot by adding more pepper in it.The water in the soup compliments the chicken very well. I offered the soup to my roommates and they all liked it except my Brazilian roommate since he found it very hot.I seriously didn't find it very challenging because I'm used to preparing food on a regular basis. I think it was a partial success since most of them including me liked it. But as I said before if my Brazilian roommate would have liked it, it would have been a complete success. So, I think from next time on wards I will think about everyone else likes and dislikes before preparing any food.I will try to find a balance between everyone's liking.

So, I think it was a good experience for me and I think this experience will surely help me in my future endeavors.

Lamb chops : My favorite cut in lambs

Lamb Chops I'm a hardcore Non-vegetarian who likes to eat all types of meat available in market. When it comes to meat I like beef, pork, lambs, chicken etc, but lamb meat is my favorite. In lamb, the best part for me is lamb chops. I like cuts with bones because I think they have more flavor than boneless meat.                                                         Photo Credit : http://www.lindasitaliantable.com Lamb is sheep meat which is under one year old. Fruit Hunter

Bosc Pear I visited No frills market in Ennerdale road to select my fruit for the blog.I tried to visit St Lawrence market but it was closed since it was Monday. So I decided to visit No frills market near my house. I saw a lot of fruits like Dragon fruit, red plum, pomegranate etc. , but I decided to choose bosc pears because I have never seen that in India. Even though we have D'Anjou in India, I have never seen bosc pears in India. So I was very excited to choose this fruit even though it is common in North America. Brief summary of Bosc Pear : The Beurré Bosc or Bosc is a cultivar of the European Pear grown in the northwestern U.S. states of California, Washington, and Oregon; Australia; as well as in British Columbia, Ontario and Europe, where it is sometimes called Kaiser. The Beurré Bosc was cultivated first in France. The name Bosc is given after a French horticulturist named Louis Bosc.  It is called the "aristocrat of pears".It is sui

Hug a Farmer

Farmers are the most important people who contribute in each and everyone's life.We buy food, cotton cloths etc from shops which are produced by the farmers. Farmers contribute a lot in a countries economy. Most of the developed countries have a very strong agriculture background. Good farming helps the country to be self sufficient. I would like to write about my uncle, who is a farmer from my native place in Kerala, India. His name is Madambath Muralidharan. My grandfather was a farmer and my uncle continued his legacy. My father was not interested in farming, so he migrated to Mumbai for work. My dad always told me that my uncle was very passionate about farming. He used to accompany my grandfather from his childhood days to the farm and he was very curious about small details. He has been a farmer for last 50 years. His farming includes horticulture and animal husbandry. He produces banana, coconut and some vegetables like bitter gourd, long beans, yellow and white pumpkin
